Cocaine kingpin El Chapo's 16-year-old granddaughter in surprise bid to become popstar

The 16-year-old granddaughter of the fallen cocaine overlord El Chapo wants to become a music star.

Frida Sofia Guzman is the daughter of gunned down Sinaloa Cartel boss Edgar Guzman Lopez, and the granddaughter of Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Loera, 64, known widely as 'El Chapo'.

She's also the stepdaughter of Mexican professional boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Her granddad is currently serving a life sentence in Colorado.

But now the 16-year-old girl is gunning into the regional Mexican music scene after performing at a boxing match and making it as a finalist on a reality TV show.

Frida Sofia, born in the north-western Mexican state of Sinaloa, participated in the TV show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento' ('I Have Talent, Lots of Talent).

Despite the pop star hopeful only coming third on the show, her passion for music was reportedly very clear.

On top of music, the teen also has a passion for boxing, following in the footsteps of her stepfather.

Frida also has dreams of modelling and has enjoyed travelling to the UK, France and multiple places in the USA.

She graduated from high school in 2019.

Her mother, Frida Munoz Roman, began a family with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr when her partner and Frida Sofia's father, Edgar, was gunned down in 2008.

Julio is the son of retired boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez.

The couple have two children together but it is not currently clear if they are still together.

After Chavez Jr returned home from a rehabilitation centre, he allegedly accused his wife of not taking care of his children and infidelity.

In other news, El Chapo's son is accused of ordering the killing of a famous singer after they refused to perform at his wedding.

The United States Department of State (DoS) made the allegation against Ovidio Guzman Lopez, who is the son of former drug lord Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Loera, also known as 'El Chapo'.

According to the DoS, Ovidio Guzman, 31, ordered the killing of a famous Mexican singer, who has yet to be named, for turning down the opportunity to perform on his special day.

It has not been revealed whether or not the killing was actually carried out.
