Donald Trump was secretly working as an FBI informant trying to take down former pal Jeffrey Epstein, according to a senior Republican. Trump was warned earlier this year that his name appeared "several times" in files linked to the convicted paedophile.

Epstein, who passed away behind bars in August 2019, regularly partied with the US president throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. But appearing on US TV, Johnson defended the president and said there had been his relationship with Epstein than meets the eye.

"Ive talked to him about this many times, many times," Johnson said. "He is horrified. Its been misrepresented. Hes not saying that what Epstein did is a hoax. Its a terrible, unspeakable evil. He believes that himself.

Johnson continued: "When he first heard the rumour, he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago. He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down."

Trump has insisted his connection to the Epstein scandal throughout his second term has been nothing but a "Democrat-invented hoax," something Johnson agrees with. "What Trump is referring to is the hoax that the Democrats are using to try to attack him," he said during the grilling.

It comes after US Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed an Epstein client list was sitting on her desk back in February.

But by July, Trumps Department of Justice said it had found no trace of such a list.

That same month, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Bondi had privately warned the president his name appeared several times in files linked to the convicted paedophile.

It is claimed Trump cut ties after the disgraced financier allegedly tried to poach staff from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

MAGA loyalists have been left bitterly divided, with many activists accusing the Trump administration of trying to shield powerful figures linked to Epstein.

The rift sparked furious demands for the President to sack Attorney General Pam Bondi, but Trump flatly rejected the calls in a July social media post.

Trump has a long and shifting history when it comes to Epsteins death. In 2019, he claimed the disgraced financiers suicide had been covered up and demanded a full investigation.

Four years later, during a sit-down with right-wing news host Tucker Carlson, he even suggested Epstein may have been murdered.

But last week the president dramatically changed tack, dismissing the entire scandal as a smear.

It came as more than 10 victims of Epstein, as well as the family of Prince Andrew sex accuser Virginia Giuffre - who died by suicide in April - demanded Trump follow through on his campaign pledge and release the governments Epstein documents.

He has since reneged.

Minutes after the women spoke last Wednesday on the steps of the Capitol, the president dismissed their claims.

His comments came after Republicans released thousands of Epstein documents, almost 97% of which had already been made public.

But its really a Democrat hoax because theyre trying to get people to talk about something thats totally irrelevant to the success that weve had as a nation since Ive been president.
