Four teachers were reportedly left injured after a grenade blew up inside a Russian classroom during an anti-terrorism drill. The incident unfolded at School No. 21 in the village of Serkovo, located in the Shchyolkovo region near Moscow.

Staff are understood to have been taking part in an emergency response exercise when an airsoft grenade was allegedly hurled directly through a window. The weapon detonated inside the building, sending sharp debris flying and striking nearby teachers, according to the Telegram channel Baza.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following the blast, and an investigation into the exact circumstances has been launched.

Four staff members required medical attention following the explosive mistake, reports RU Life.

The incident happened during nationwide security exercises currently being rolled out across Russian schools and kindergartens.

The drills are designed to prepare teachers, administrators and security guards for terrifying real-world scenarios, including hostage crises, petrol bomb attacks and incoming drone strikes.

According to Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Bugayev, the high-stakes drills mark the first time kindergartens have been included in the nationwide anti-terror programme.

It comes as Russian authorities attempt to clamp down on security threats, with more than 76,000 schools already claimed to have completed the training.

The nationwide safety drive follows high-level security talks led by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who recently met with his Kremlin inner circle, including FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov, Sergei Shoigu and Dmitry Medvedev, to discuss tightening defences against potential attacks.

The exercises come amid escalating tensions, following a wave of Ukrainian deep-strikes on Russia using long-distance drones to hit targets well inside enemy territory.

The strikes have hit oil refineries, naval bases, logistics hubs and online retail warehouses, with some attacks reaching more than 1,000 miles over the border, triggering widespread fuel shortages and rolling blackouts.

Meanwhile, Russia has issued a chilling warning that Britain will face severe "consequences" after UK-made drones were reportedly deployed by Ukrainian forces for the first time.
