A massive 500kg Russian bomb fell on a residential building in Ukraine, laying bare the horrors of war.

With Russia preparing to storm the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, the bombing and shelling across many towns and cities in the country have intensified, leading to a growing number of civilian casualties.

Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelensky has vowed revenge after photos of a fleeing family lying dead in the street as Russian forces shelled Irpin shocked the world.

His Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has taken to Twitter to post a picture of a giant Russian bomb that landed on a residential building in Chernihiv, less than 100 miles from Kyiv.

Kuleba mentions that luckily the bomb didn't detonate, but claims other bombs have and is calling on the West to do more to help Ukrainians in their struggle.

He wrote: "This horrific 500kg Russian bomb fell on a residential building in Chernihiv and didnt explode. Many others did, killing innocent men, women and children.

"Help us protect our people from Russian barbarians! Help us close the sky. Provide us with combat aircraft. Do something!"

This comes as Western leaders have been resistant to calls for a no-fly zone, arguing that it would unleash a wider war that would engulf the entirety of Europe.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said during a trip to Estonia last week: "Its very, very important to understand NATO is a defensive alliance.

"This is a time when miscalculation and misunderstanding is all too possible and its, therefore, crucial that we get that message over.

When it comes to a no-fly zone in the skies above Ukraine we have to accept the reality that that involves shooting down Russian planes... Thats a very, very big step, its simply not on the agenda of any NATO country.

US Senator Marco Rubio even went a step further claiming that establishing a no-fly zone would lead to WW3.

He said: "'A no-fly zone has become a catchphrase. I'm not sure a lot of people fully understand what that means.

"It's not some rule you pass that everybody has to oblige by. It's the willingness to shoot down the aircrafts of the Russian Federation, which is basically the beginning of WW3."
