The Daily Star: News with a Wink

'Houthi pirate' dubbed 'Timhouthi Chamalet' as people gush over TikTok next to hijacked ship

An alleged Houthi rebel described as 'Timhouthi Chamalet' has sent the internet into a meltdown, with people suggesting modelling agencies should be sending talent scouts to Yemen

An alleged Houthi rebel has released footage of him approaching the hijacked ship Galaxy Leader but people on the internet are all saying the same thing.

Images of the man on a small boat approaching the massive intercontinental car-transporting vessel have gone viral in recent days. The hijacking of the ship on November 19 caused international astonishment, but people have been flocking to comments and reposts to note how good-looking the man in the video is.

The footage comes amid heightened global tensions in the wake of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have attacked and hijacked a number of different ships passing through the Red Sea towards Israel. An international incident has followed with the US and UK launching airstrikes against targets in Yemen.

The footage was posted to X by an account with the caption: Yemeni pirates positing casual TikToks while the entire western imperial core are having a meltdown about their blockade on their ships is the funniest shit of 2024, surely.

The capture of the ship, which is co-owned by Israeli businessman Abraham Ungar, has since been used as propaganda by Houthi rebels.

Some 25 hostages were taken during the hijacking and while the Houthis have said the crew are being treated acceptably, their exact location and wellbeing is not currently known. The ship is understood to have been used as a tourist attraction since its capture.

Since this latest clip was posted, people online have been fawning over the alleged Houthi rebel's appearance. The suspected pirate is said to be called Rashid, although this, and whether or not he is in fact a Houthi pirate, has not been confirmed.

Timhouthi Chamalet right there, one person said. Dammit he's hot, were gonna lose the TikTok girlies to pirates aren't we, said another.

Oh Yemen I wasnt familiar with your game, wrote another. A fourth added: That guy should be a model. Damn.

A fifth joked: I would have stopped to just look at him. Modelling Scouting agents planning to go to Yemen for recruitments.
