People have been left baffled after NASA shared the food menu provided for the four astronauts that are currently completing the 10 day Artemis II mission in space as many went on to make the same joke.
On April 1, NASA launched its Artemis II mission, which sees four astronauts travel up to space and around the moon for the first time in more than 50 years. NASAs Space Launch System rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, carrying the Orion spacecraft and its crew on a planned test flight around the moon and back, the space agency said in a statement. This is a major step in the agencys long-term plan to return humans to the lunar surface.
The mission will take 10 days, meaning the crew will enjoy several meals out in space. But what does the food look like for these astronauts? NASA has revealed the menu that's available for the crew, and people were quickly left baffled by it.
The Artemis II menu includes items such as barbecued beef brisket, vegetable quiche, broccoli au gratin, and macaroni and cheese. Meanwhile, the many drinks options range from a mango-peach smoothie and chocolate and strawberry breakfast drinks to coffee and green tea. In total, NASA said the four astronauts are expected to go through 43 cups of coffee on their 10 day mission.
The space organisation explained in their announcement that the food flying aboard Artemis II is designed to support crew health and performance during the mission around the Moon.
With no resupply, refrigeration, or late-load capability, all meals must be carefully selected to remain safe, shelf-stable, and easy to prepare and consume in the spacecraft.
But that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy nice and tasty foods. Along with the menu, NASA also revealed that there are five different hot sauces also going up to space with the crew.
Other additional flavouring options include maple syrup, chocolate spread and peanut butter, as well as honey strawberry jam, to name a few things.
And if they crew gets a sudden sweet tooth, the food supply also contains cookies, chocolate, cake, candy coated almonds, cobbler, and pudding.
After the food menu was posted by X account Pop Base, hundreds of people soon took to the comment section, as many people quickly made the same joke about the space menu.
"They eating better in space than me on Earth," one person wrote. Another user also said: "on a spaceship still eating better than 99% of the world."
A third user said: "Creamy spinach with nutmeg and coconut milk sounds fancy for zero gravity."
While someone else wrote: "Artemis II crew about to be dining in orbit like its a 10-day fine-dining experience."
Another chimed in: "10 days of pre-packaged meals but at least they got variety."
