Paranormal content influencer, 24, dies in car crash after destroying 'cursed' statue

A popular Chinese influencer has died in a car crash just one year after she controversially destroyed a statue of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, called Guanyin

An online content influencer has died at the age of just 24, shortly after destroying an allegedly cursed statue. Renowned content creator, Jiang Xiaorou, caused controversy after she destroyed a statue that depicted, Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in August 2025.


Jiangs video showing her destruction of the statue that depicts the Buddhist figure drew a lot of attention when it was posted online last year.


At the time, Jiang reportedly said that she was experimenting to test what the consequences of her actions would be.


Jiang told her followers, as she smashed the clay statue, that she was interested to see how long she would last as part of a superstition experiment, saying: Lets see how long I can live.

Following Jiang's smashing of the statue, her followers slammed what shed done, calling the move disrespectful.


Some social media users have linked the video of Jiang destroying the statue to her tragic death at such a young age.

Jiang was a popular online content creator with over one million followers on Douyin, a popular a social media platform in China, which is the Chinese version of TikTok.

For the most part, her content centred on the paranormal and abandoned buildings, as well as her interest in the paranormal world in general.

According to reports, the controversial content creator died from injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this month on August 10, just over a month after her final video was posted on July 9, which saw her make phone calls to numbers suggested by her followers.

According to The Tab, Jiang was travelling from Guangxi to Guangzhou when the vehicle she was in collided with another vehicle.


It was later reported by local media that Jiang was rushed to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for, but later succumbed to, her injuries. An investigation into the circumstances behind the accident is still ongoing.

In a statement on her Douyin account, her family made a statement requesting that people refrained from spreading unverified information about their relatives death.

They said: Here, her family and friends earnestly request everyone: respect the facts, refrain from spreading unverified information, do not forward content involving privacy, and please stop making excessive speculations about her and her family.
