Brits are being urged to check their purses and wallets for extraordinary 5 notes that could be worth a fortune. In 2016, micro-engraver Graham Short crafted 10 exceptional 5 notes, each featuring minuscule portraits - and every single note carries an insurance valuation of an eye-watering 50,000.

The initial batch of 4 notes showcases an engraving of Jane Austen. Three notes were successfully discovered after entering circulation in 2017 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the novelist's passing, with one donated to the Jane Austen House Museum.

The remaining elusive note, bearing the serial number AM32 885554, was last used in Melton Mowbray and remains undiscovered.

More recently, six notes depicting Harry Kane entered circulation and could fetch upwards of 20,000.

Mr Short was motivated to produce the Kane collection following England's World Cup run, during which the striker claimed the Golden Boot as top scorer whilst England advanced to the semi-finals.

"I've done six - one for each goal he scored - for Harry himself, the FA and four to be spent as we did with the Jane Austen notes around the UK and Ireland," Short explained.

One was presented directly to Harry Kane, another to the Football Association, whilst the remaining four were circulated in areas including Meriden, Edinburgh, and Merthyr Tydfil, with one final note destined for Northern Ireland. So far, none of the Harry Kane fivers have been discovered.

These scarce banknotes could command a price of up to 20,000 - with eager bidders prepared to part with an amount equivalent to a house deposit for the coveted item.

This trend has sparked a surge in 5 notes being peddled on eBay and other online marketplaces. Among the most sought-after notes are those prefixed with 'AA01', signifying they're from the first batch ever printed.

However, these aren't the only 5 notes generating buzz online - notes featuring the 'AK47' serial number have been listed for as much as 160,000, although most have been selling for around 100.
