An original Babestation model revealed how blokes would wait for "hours" to chat to her - and she would even buy local fans pints in Wetherspoons.
Camilla Jayne, 41, was one of the original big names to come the largest international cam platforms of the time. The saucy model's prominence started in an unlikely manner following a spontaneous meeting during a night on the town.
Camilla, hailing from Oxfordshire, impulsively chose to enter a bikini contest at a Mayfair nightclub and was quickly approached by an executive who enquired whether she'd ever contemplated appearing on television.
She's now reflecting back on her career that launched her to after-dark stardom.
"They were one girl short for the bikini contest and I stepped in last-minute," revealed the adult entertainer, who boasts 22,400 Instagram followers, @cammyjayne7.
She continued: "I'd had a few drinks, so I thought, 'Why not?'
"My recent relationship had broken down and I thought it'd be a fun distraction. Amazingly, I ended up winning and even got a bottle of champagne. Then a stranger came up to me and asked me if I wanted to do TV.
"I found her card in my pocket when I woke up the next day and realised that she worked for a TV company.
"She wanted me to be a presenter and read out text messages from viewers on air. It all seemed great and I loved the flexibility. I just ended up working on the phones as well, talking to users live, and really enjoyed it.
"You get to speak to so many unusual people and a lot of characters. Then, Babestation rang me."
The adult channel had spotted Camilla on television and swiftly recruited her she was 23 years old at the time. She remarked: "I knew that I had something a bit different to offer.
"The job was amazing. I was always trying to be as sexy as I could but people really loved the funny side of me, which I think made me relatable.
"I had a bit of character. A user might spot me in their local Wetherspoon's and I would buy them a drink and we'd have a laugh. I've had many people tell me that I was their first crush.
"One guy said he recorded every single time I was on TV it was wild." Despite the largely positive reactions, Camilla acknowledges that it occasionally felt rather awkward.
She admitted that it would sometimes 'get' to her when she was recognised in public or in the club.
The model said that she found it "slightly unbelievable" that people actually considered her a celebrity, something she found "very flattering."
Camilla said: "I'd have callers come up to me while I was just trying to go to Tesco to get my milk in the morning. And I just was a normal girl."
She reckons that for some watchers, it wasn't purely about the glamour or nudity they were seeking the "girlfriend experience". She revealed: "At one point, I had hundreds of men queuing on the phone lines, just waiting for me to talk to them.
"They wanted to speak with me on a regular basis or offered to send a birthday or Christmas present.
"I would always get Easter eggs and it was because they genuinely wanted to feel connected to me. You build up rapport and relationship with people they care.
"But our chats were also very seductive and tongue-in-cheek. Back then, p*rn was just magazines on high shelves, you didn't have what we have now, so they were excited.
"I was the famous girl on TV who they were actually able to interact with." Since making her comeback on Babestation Legends, Camilla has even reconnected with some recognisable voices.
Camilla revealed that it felt "really homely" speaking to her old callers. She recalled that one man told her that he and his wife have her on VHS tapes, reserved for "really naughty nights" together. Camilla added that some even admitted that she was there "first crush."
For Camilla, it was reassuring to discover that little has altered. She explained: "There seems to be a really huge level of respect for Babestation.
"Though some guys are really overexcited; they've never spoken to a woman in this way and they wanna be cocky and banterish.
"I tell them when they need to tone it down."
Camilla was also recently put forward for Mature Model of the Year at the UK Glamour Awards and she couldn't be more chuffed.
She concluded: "It feels amazing to be nominated. Having been in the industry this long, it feels exciting to see the Babestation team again and for everyone to get glammed up together."
