Rare coins are all the rage now. While Brits were previously told to check their wallets for a rare 5 note, it's all about the rare coins nowadays. Some could be worth anywhere between 40-10,000 and now there's three 50p coins you must look out for.

According to Instagram user @CoinCollectingWizard, who has 33,700 fans online, usually shares useful insight to the coins to keep an extra eye out for in your change. In the post, he told followers: "Some 50p coins that can make you rich." He first discussed the Benjamin Bunny coin from 2017 which is worth face value, unless you own the rare rotation error version.

He added: "The error Benjamin Bunny coin has the Queen's head printed facing the wrong direction.

"When a coin is flipped over, the Queen's head should be facing to the left but on a rotation error coin, this would be different, around 30 you could get for this rare coin."

Next in the collection was the Aquatics 50p coin from the famous London 2012 Olympic Games collection.

It is thought a small handful of the original was put into circulation featuring the unique error. This could sell for 2,000 if you have it.

He continued: "But it was then adapted very quickly to show the face above the water.

"With so few of the original design out there, it's meant the coin's value has been pushed up significantly."

And finally, around 2.2million of the Athletics 50p coin was minted and released into circulation in 2011.

"But this earlier version was minted in 2009 and is more valuable to collectors," he explained.

"If you have this coin dated 2009, then you have found it and can sell for 250 plus."

If you suspect you own a rare coin, make sure you handle it carefully and avoid cleaning it. Then have the coin's details identified and researched before you plan to sell it online.

People are advised to get a professional appraisal or grading from a reputable numismatic service to confirm authenticity and determine the coin's condition.

And finally, sell the coin through channels like a coin dealer, online marketplace, auction house, or trade show to get a fair price.
