Ricky Gervais' partner and talented author Jane Fallon has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram, despite having no symptoms, as she prepares for surgery in the coming weeks.
Best-selling author Jane Fallon has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer despite having no warning signs before the shock discovery.
The writer, who is also the long-time partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, shared the update with fans on social media after noticing she had been quieter online in recent weeks. Jane explained that the cancer was discovered during a routine screening appointment shortly before Christmas.
She wrote: So... I thought I should post something as Ive had a few people notice Ive been a bit quiet on here lately.
About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent.
The 65-year-old said the disease was spotted during a standard mammogram, even though she had not experienced any symptoms beforehand.
I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy.
Since then, Jane has undergone several medical checks as doctors work to identify the exact area requiring treatment.
Since then Ive had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. Its been a lot, Im not going to lie.
Despite the difficult few weeks, Jane told followers that her outlook is positive and she is receiving excellent care from doctors.
Her surgery is already scheduled and she says she is keen to get it over with.
But, my surgery is scheduled for the week after next and I just want to get it over with now, she explained.
Im getting incredible care and all will be fine but Im not engaging with much beyond audiobooks & jigsaws tbh. Dr Eric on duty. Nurse Pickle wondering when lunch is.
Jane first built her career working in television before moving into writing. Her debut novel, Getting Rid of Matthew, was released in 2007 and became a bestseller.
She has since written 14 books, including popular titles such as Worst. Idea. Ever., Faking Friends, Just Got Real and Queen Bee.
Jane has been in a relationship with Gervais since 1982, after the pair met while studying at University College London. They moved in together two years later and now live in Hampstead with their pets.
Following her announcement, fans flooded her social media with messages of support, wishing her well ahead of the upcoming surgery and recovery.
