Coleen Rooney's real reason for staying loyal to Wayne during 40th birthday

Wayne Rooney spearheaded the birthday wishes for wife Coleen as she marks her 40th birthday today. The former England skipper posted a montage of throwback snaps with his childhood sweetheart and wrote: " Happy 40th Birthday to the best wife and mum we could wish for. We can't wait to celebrate with you and love you all the world."

It's anticipated the family, including the pair's four boys, Kai, 16, Klay, 12, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight, will mark the occasion in spectacular fashion this evening with a lavish bash at their 20million Cheshire home.

Plans are already in motion after a massive white marquee was seen erected in their grounds on Good Friday. Meanwhile the WAG has hundreds of champagne bottles chilling ready to toast with their mates including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher. Her circle of friends including Annie Kilner and Abbey Clancy are also anticipated to feature on the guest roster.

Wayne and Coleen have been an item for more than 24 years, beginning their romance aged 16 in 2002 after first crossing paths at 12. The pair tied the knot in 2008 and have stayed united, steering their partnership through numerous public controversies.

Only last month Wayne was photographed enjoying drinks with two women at a Manchester hotel during a pre-Brit Awards gathering. In recent years, Coleen has been candid about the peaks and troughs of being a prominent WAG and coping with her husband's antics throughout the years.

Coleen was at her most frank in her 2024 Disney+ documentary, as she revealed she once told Wayne 'I can't carry on with this.' The most devastating moment in their marriage occurred when she discovered he had been stopped by police in a vehicle with another woman while she was expecting their fourth child, reports the Mirror.

While pregnant with her fourth child with the former footballer, Coleen received an apologetic telephone call from her husband after he'd been photographed in a vehicle with 'party girl' Laura Simpson following a drunken evening out. After encountering Laura in a pub, Wayne chauffeured the pair back in her VW Beetle.

The evening went from terrible to catastrophic when officers stopped them over a defective brake light and found Wayne was three times above the drink drive limit.

Coleen's mum, Colette McLoughlin, expressed: "As parents you don't want your daughter to be going through that. You're mad, you're angry. All you wants to do is protect her. She was speaking to Wayne who's trying to sort things out. I love him but sometimes I don't like him. I feel like shaking him. He's hurt Coleen and that's what matters."

This wasn't the first instance of Wayne being accused of betraying his teenage sweetheart.

In 2002, Wayne visited three sex workers, which included paid encounters with Gina McCarrick at a Liverpool brothel and Charlotte Glover, then 21. His then-girlfriend Coleen forgave Wayne for the incidents that came to light in 2004.

The Rooneys crossed paths at the tender age of 12 while at school, but Wayne started visiting prostitutes when he was just 16. One of the sex workers he frequented was 48 year old grandmother Patricia Tiernan, known as Auld Slapper.

Wayne later admitted: "Foolish as it now seems I did on occasions visit massage parlours and prostitutes. I now regret it deeply and hope people may understand that it was the sort of mistake you make when you are young and stupid. It was at a time when I was very young and immature."

In her autobiography, Coleen revealed: "The truth is, and I've never said this before, at that time in our relationship I'd never even slept with Wayne."

It emerged in 2010 that Rooney had used prostitutes while Coleen was expecting their first child. He encountered Jennifer Thompson seven times and was caught having a threesome with her and Helen Wood. Wood has since revealed: "He said, 'I feel really s**t already - I'm begging you two not to say anything. It will ruin my marriage if it gets out. Having a kid means everything to me.'"

Coleen admitted that it was only following Wayne's third scandal involving Laura Simpson that she declared 'I can't do this anymore', and returned to live with her parents Tony and Colette. Wayne was forced to apologise not only to Coleen but also his in-laws in a bid to win her back.

Following time apart, Coleen eventually chose to stick by her husband. Friends predicted at the time that devoted Coleen would remain with her spouse, even if she wouldn't make life straightforward for him.
