"Booyakasha!" One of the most iconic and controversial characters of the 2000s, Ali G is set to make a return to the big screen.
Created by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, Ali G first appeared on Channel 4's The 11 O'clock Show in the late 1990s, before landing his own show in which he would lampoon famous people and politicians, resulting him becoming a household name in the UK and beyond.
Now, over two decades since his last feature-length film, Ali G Indahouse production has reportedly wrapped on a brand new film starring the spoof character dubbed the voice of da yoof.
According to Variety, the film was shot completely in secret in a similar vein to Cohen's other hit project Borat and the two films that spawned from that character.
Sacha Baron Cohen's other sketch characters that ended up on the big screen included German fashionista Brno, who landed his own film in 2009. But now, 24 years after Ali G Indahouse was released, a new project is set to hit our screens in the coming months.
No details have been released on what happens in the course of the film, but fans will know Ali G's unorthodox style of interviewing and classic sayings including "West Side" and "respek".
Ali G famously met Donald Trump in 2003 when he pitched an invention called the "ice cream glove," a business idea designed to prevent sticky hands and keep hands warm while eating ice cream. Trump stayed for about seven minutes, taking the character seriously and answering his questions.
The character became notorious for his hilarious interviews with other big names, including philosopher Noam Chomsky, politician New Gingrich and broadcaster Andy Rooney. Asking questions in his signature streetwise style his guests were often puzzled and stunned at his stupidity.
Ali G also reached No2 on the UK Singles Chart in 2002 with the track Me Julie, which was a collaboration with Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy. The song served as the lead single for the soundtrack to his film Ali G Indahouse and spent six weeks in the top 10.
Despite his Staines roots Ali G broke through in the American market too and was shown on HBO, earning him a cult following.
Meanwhile, Sacha Baron Cohen has continued to with movie projects, showing up in a slew of big box office smashes. Apart from his sketch comedy, he even landed an Oscar for his role as Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7.
