The TV star opened up about her views on what happens after death and said that she has chosen to believe in the chance that some aspect of her will continue beyond. The presenter, 58, was joined by Professor Brian Cox on her podcast Begin Again with Davina McCall where the subject of life after death came up.
Davina said: "I know that you've talked a lot before about death and what happens to us after death and it's like 'nothing.'" Brian, 58 agreed: "I don't talk much about it because I've only got a one word answer. It's nothing."
She then replied: "What I really liked was I listened to something talking about atoms and how atoms never die. They just go somewhere else and that I've chosen to believe that I live on through that. Can you just explain the concept of an atom?"
The physicist clarified: "These are the building blocks of us. They are very tiny. I always show a snowflake and they're about a centimetre across. They're made of water, these molecules. You can line up 100 million of them across a snowflake, so they're about 100 million times smaller than a snowflake. Those are the building blocks and they're eternal, essentially."
"When we die, the building blocks of us are still there. They are not destroyed and they will ultimately go back into the earth. Then the earth will die, it may get incinerated by the sun."
Brian said that these atoms will then drift into space, while others might collapse back together to form new star systems and planets, explaining that they are essentially recycled in some way, reports the Express.
He continued: "They live for pretty much eternity," as Davina added: "If we're made up of atoms, we will carry on in something else, in some different form." Fans rushed to the comments to post encouraging messages after the interview as one person wrote: "I cried listening to this episode. Two passionate and authentic souls in dialogue. I think I could have listened for hours."
Another commented: "Davina brings such an authentic yet stylish winsomeness to all her encounters with which she completely wins you over from the outset. It's a cliche to say someone has turned the interview into an art form, but in Davina's case this isn't hyperbole."
A third posted: "I just subscribed. Your podcasts are great. I love your energy and authenticity, keep going."
The mother-of-three has been open in her discussions about mortality following her brain tumour diagnosis. In November 2024, Davina underwent a craniotomy after medics discovered a "very rare" colloid cyst in her brain and spent three days in intensive care following the demanding five-hour operation.
