Denise Welch achieves 'British EGOT' after landing roles in all major UK soaps

Loose Women and British soap legend Denise Welch can now say she is the proud holder of a CHEE after her guest role in Emmerdale was recently announced

Denise Welch is now a CHEE holder.

The star's guest role on Emmerdale was recently announced and over on X/Twitter, someone wrote: "Denise Welch has officially achieved a "CHEE", the [fictional] British version of an EGOT, after appearing in Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale." An EGOT is the phrase used for entertainers that have been awarded an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony throughout their career.

Famous EGOT holders include Whoopi Goldberg, Elton John, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mel Brooks and Audrey Hepburn. Underneath the tweet, excited fans joined in the fun as one person pointed out: "Add the 'W' for Waterloo Road. That's the gold standard."

"Waterloo Road, Casualty, Holby City, The Bill, Doctors, Benidorm. What hasn't she been in," praised another Welch fan. "Also she was the subject of the iconic GCSE Drama-standard 'How's Trish?' scene in Hollyoaks," noted another soap fan.

The Hollyoaks fan was referring to a scene in the soap played out by Curtis Pritchard and his brother AJ, which has become a UK pop culture phenomenon as many viewers deemed their acting subpar.

Jacqueline Denise Welch is also known for her role as a Loose Women panellist, as well in Spender, Soldier Soldier and Down to Earth. She has also competed in Dancing On Ice and Celebrity Big Brother.

She is married to actor and Benidorm star Tim Healy after they met while working for Newcastle's Live Theatre Company. The pair have two sons, most notably Matty Healy who is the lead vocalist for pop rock band The 1975.

The rocker is known for his band's iconic sound, signature vocals and his high-profile relationships. Matty previously dated Taylor Swift and FKA Twigs before announcing his engagement to model Gabbriette Bechtel back in June 2024.
