Harry Potter actress Jessie Cave has revealed her unusual side hustle has earned her more in a year than she made throughout her entire acting career.

The former child star, 39, became famous playing Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films before going on to appear in shows including Call the Midwife, Industry, Am I Being Unreasonable? and Black Mirror.

But after finding acting work increasingly difficult to come by, the mum-of-four has opened up about the financial pressure that eventually pushed her towards the adult platform. Jessie said she reached a point of complete desperation after struggling to find work and being unable to afford to retrain.

She even claimed she couldn't take a supermarket job because of childcare costs and concerns that customers might recognise her and start shouting Harry Potter spells at her.

Speaking to The Times, she said the situation became so overwhelming that she had a breakdown.

In March 2025, Jessie joined Only Fans, initially expecting it to be a short-term way of making some extra cash while she figured out her next move. Instead, the unconventional career move has proved far more successful than she expected.

I thought Id make five grand, be on it for a few months and it would buy me time to work out what were going to do, she said. But its now been over a year and a half and its genuinely saved our lives.

Jessie's content is not explicit. Instead, she has carved out a niche creating videos focused on her famously long hair, which falls to her pelvis.

She brushes it while dressed as characters including her former Harry Potter role, Lavender Brown. My rule is the hair is the main character. Thats how I justify it, she explained. Its literally about hair: the texture of hair. The fetish. Its very, very niche.

Jessie revealed subscribers pay $6 a month, while she also makes additional money through paid-for messages. The figures have been eye-watering, with the actress claiming she once made 15,000 in a single day.

She also revealed that, over one year, her earnings from the platform exceeded everything she had made from her acting career. Before landing the Harry Potter role, Jessie appeared in the CBBC drama Summerhill in 2008.

She won the role of Lavender Brown through an open casting process, beating around 7,000 other girls to appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Her other acting credits include the ITV sitcom Buffering and Sky comedy Trollied.

Earlier this year, Jessie also underwent breast enlargement surgery, which she said her subscribers paid for. She explained that part of the decision was because her hair can only do so much.

Despite the success, Jessie admits she may only have a limited future on the platform because she does not want to cross the line into explicit content. She said she is regularly asked to do gross stuff, something she admitted can get to her.

However, she believes more performers could turn to the platform in the future, following stars including Kate Nash and Lily Allen, who have both previously spoken about using the platform to help subsidise their music careers.
