Harry Styles at risk of losing out on summer number one as unexpected star makes bid

Harry Styles might have been best placed for a summer number one record but things aren't looking too good with a new track looking to take him off the top spot

Move aside Olivia Rodrigo, it seems a meerkat is vowing to take your place as the summer number one this year.

Aleksandr the Meerkat, famed for his appearance in adverts for Compare the Market, has been collaborating with Ibiza heavyweight DJ Joel Corry. With more than 8.5 million monthly Spotify listeners, Corry worked with Aleksandr to transform the famous simples slogan into a bass-heavy dance record. The track debuted last week in Ocean Beach Ibiza where your Daily Star was able to have a listen.

A few days later, it was played again at the Isle of Wight Festival with great success.

Joel and Aleksandrs single is available to stream today and will be going up against the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles and Olivia Dean in the chart race for a UK number one.

While Aleksander has been on our screens since 2009, this is the meerkats first music accolade. SIMPLES has already gained social media attention, with Love Islander Cach Mirjah Mercer and other Gen Z influencers uploading dances to the track.

When asked whether it was different working with a Meerkat rather than the likes of his previous guests such as RAYE and Charli XCX, Corry seemed glad for the change.

He said: I remember seeing the iconic Meerkats adverts on TV and the simples catchphrase became a part of British culture. When Compare the Market asked me to jump on a remix, I was well up for the challenge!

The new release forms part of Joel Corrys ongoing support for Teenage Cancer Trust. All royalties from the track will help fund the charitys specialist nurses, youth workers and dedicated hospital units within the NHS.

I wanted to make this a fun remix that would sound big in the club while also tapping into the nostalgia of music from the time the Meerkats first appears on screens. UK rapper Scrufizzer teamed up with me to lay down some bars in the booth.

Ive been playing the SIMPLES remix in my summer festival sets and in Ibiza. The reaction has been incredible and Im glad people are having fun with it.
