Hidden heartache behind Cheryl's Disney trip as Liam Payne's sister responds

Cheryl shared a rare glimpse into her personal life with a heartfelt post about her Disney World trip with son Bear, as Liam Payne's sister Ruth left a touching reply

Cheryl thrilled fans with an exceptionally rare glimpse into her recent journey to Disneyworld with her son Bear. The Girls Aloud star shares the nine year old with the late Liam Payne and typically keeps her private life away from public view.

However, the heartwarming update left fans swooning over her Instagram post, with followers astounded by how much Bear has grown. Amongst those commenting was Bear's aunt Ruth Gibbins - Liam's sister from One Direction. Ruth responded with a handshake emoji and a quip about experiencing the renowned ride, Flight of Passage.

Cheryl had written: "Somewhere in the corners of the world Magic still exists. I don't know what took me so long to experience the joys of @waltdisneyworld but I completely escaped into my inner child for the last couple of weeks. What a wonderful place."

Upon spotting Ruth's response, supporters quickly cottoned on that Cheryl and Bear had been accompanied on their adventure by Liam's relatives. Ruth had posted her own snaps on Instagram, describing the Orlando expedition as a "bittersweet trip".

Ruth shared several photographs and while Cheryl wasn't visible in them, the timing suggested they were present simultaneously. Ruth penned: "Orlando [hand shake emoji] Paynes! Bittersweet, healing and at times so heavy hearted walking around and being on my brother's favourite rides in his favourite place without him. Ashton's first time to Disneyworld and my little thrill seeker absolutely loved it, it's basically in his genes to love Disney, so magical. Always in your honour Liam, you'd have loved this trip."

Liam's girlfriend Kate Cassidy was amongst those who liked the post. Back in October 2024, after Liam's devastating and premature passing, Cheryl addressed the heartbreaking reality facing her son Bear as he grows up without his dad.

She expressed at the time: "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being. Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."

Bear arrived in 2017 after Cheryl and Liam, who first crossed paths on the X Factor, started their relationship a year prior. Though the couple separated before Bear's first birthday, they remained devoted to co-parenting him, reports the Mirror.

Liam stated at the time: "We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world." In 2024, tragedy struck when Liam tragically fell to his death from a hotel in Buenos Aires. He was only 31-years-old.

Since that devastating event, Cheryl has praised her mum and brother for being her 'rock' as she and Bear navigate their life without the former One Direction member.

Cheryl's recent journey comes after a challenging year. Last September, following an extended legal battle, her stalker was jailed. He was slapped with a lifetime restraining order and sentenced to a year behind bars.

In a statement read out in court, Cheryl said the incident had a "huge impact" on her life and frightened her son. The statement read "It's had a huge impact - I have a young child to protect.

"It has made my young child scared. I have had to rely on security, family and friends for support. Why should I have to move because of Daniel's behaviour? It's unacceptable, terrifying and having a detrimental impact."
