A British festival hosting top acts including Christina Aguilera and Lionel Richi has been scrapped just days before it was due to kick-off.

HeritageLive festival was due to take place across Englefield Estate, the Audley End Estate and the Sandringham Estate. Organisers have blamed the cancellation on far lower than average ticket sales and general financial uncertainty.

In a statement released today, the HeritageLive team said: Wed been working desperately hard behind the scenes to conclude an investment and equity package to ease the burden of an extraordinarily tough year, but this last beacon of hope has fallen through at the 11th hour, making it impossible to go ahead.

As one of the few remaining British independent promoters, its become almost impossible to compete in what has become an increasingly saturated festival market.

Pointing at multi-national promoters for driving up costs, HeritageLive stated the dwindling ticket sales resulted in the event being no longer financially viable.

The team added: It would therefore be irresponsible and wrong of us to proceed without the certainty that wed be able to meet all of our supplier, artist and crew costs.

The whole HeritageLive team is absolutely devastated. It would have been the most amazing summer with such an extraordinary array of supreme talent and were all so very sorry to let everyone down. The statement added: Thank you so much to everyone who has supported and enjoyed our events over the past 10 years.

Punters who purchased their tickets through official outlets are expected to have their tickets automatically refunded. In a heart-breaking blow to the festival scene it is understood there are no plans to continue the festival next year and in the years to come.

The statement concluded: Whilst this is devastating news, we hope that in time youre able to look back with fond memories to those happier days; weve had so many awesome and magical moments over the years and hope they remain in your hearts forever.

Alongside Christina Aguilera other artists including Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin and Eric Clapton were expected to play during the festival.
