Inside GBBO Prue Leith's 'Red Room of Pain' as husband's 'banishment' location exposed

Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has opened up about her home life with husband John Playfair and the couple's cheekily named "Red Room of Pain"

Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith has given fans a sneak peek into a very unique part of her home that her husband refers to as the "Red Room of Pain."

The GBBO star is married to fashion designer John Playfair, her husband of ten years, and revealled that their home includes a space she has called the "Banishment Room." In her latest book, Being Old...and Learning to Love It!, she explained the property features an "enormous copper slab" as the front door, which John calls the "cat-flap".

They also have a white-walled atrium and a "mostly yellow" kitchen. The South African-British restaurateur also disclosed that the couple have a drawing room, complete with sofas adored by their two Cavalier King Charles spaniels named Tattie and Teasel, reports the Express.

On the top floor, they have two bedrooms, accessible via lift when needed, and the upper level also accommodates John's infamous "Red Room of Pain". Prue wrote: "In our green and blue bedroom, one wall is given over to my obsession for cheap necklaces."

"Then there is the room I call the Banishment Room, and John calls the Red Room of Pain (he should be so lucky!)"

"In fact, it's John's dressing room and bathroom, painted maroon-red to offset his Indian miniature paintings and furnished with a four-poster bed. I would name separate bathrooms and dressing rooms as my dream luxury, after a good larder."

The confession comes after the 86-year-old recently shared the "secret" behind her youthful looks and explained that a certain treatment boosts her "libido" and makes her feel "better and younger."

She said: "I asked a doctor, 'What's normal?' She said there are no studies because it's just imagined people my age don't. I don't think I'd be active in every sense without hormone replacement therapy (HRT). When people ask, 'How do you look so young? How are you still working?' Well, that's the secret."

Along with progesterone tablets and oestrogen patches, she also uses "dabs" of testosterone gel, which she insists is "great for libido." She revealed to Saga Magazine: "It's great for libido. You feel better and younger and..." At this juncture, the publication observed that Prue gave a "suggestive wink" and "broad grin."
