Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner out of running for James Bond says 007 casting director

Debbie McWilliams the casting director who helped find Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig believes the next 007 needs to be 'a total enigma' and rules out well known actors

Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner's hopes of becoming the next James Bond have been dashed by a former casting director.

Debbie McWilliams, who worked on 007 movies for 40 years and helped find beloved screen spies Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, reckons the new Bond needs to be an unknown.

Dua Lipa's husband Turner is favourite with bookies to land the role, alongside Harris Dickinson. However, McWilliams believes they carry too much baggage already and she doesn't "want to see any of them as James Bond.

She told The Independent: It is absolutely essential that (Bond) retains a total enigma. I dont want to see any of them as Bond because we now know so much about them.

"We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because thats what spies are. We dont need to know where he goes shopping or who his parents are, or where he lives.

"We never want to see him at home. And a vital element of the whole thing is his job description. Hes licensed to kill, and we have to believe that he can do that. If you dont, then youve lost the audience.

McWilliams began her 007 adventures on For Your Eyes Only and had to come up with the tricky tyask of replacing Roger Moore inn the mid 1980s. She reckons it was essential they were not household names.

Timothy (Dalton) and Pierce (Brosnan) werent particularly well known. Daniel (Craig) had had a career in independent films and a fairly colourful romantic life beforehand, but he wasnt a household name, and that helps enormously. I want to see somebody who is completely out of the blue.

Callum Turner is bookies fave but could be too famous already

There is some hope for Callum Turner though as McWilliams retired before Amazons acquisition of the Bond franchise, so the search for the next 007 actor falls to casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve.

Deadline reported in May that Nina Gold was searching for actors whod appeared in Londons West End theatre shows rather than movies.
