Rugby player James Haskell has addressed fans from his hospital bed ahead of major spinal surgery.
In a video, filmed by wife Chloe Madeley, 34, he explains that he is about to undergo a discectomy.
The major surgery has significant risks but is performed to relieve pressure on a herniated disk.
The 36-year-old was in high spirits while addressing followers.
He told fans: "Hi everyone, I just thought I would give you a little update.
"So many of you have sent me nice messages about my back. Im having surgery today, Im having something called a discectomy."
Chloe, daughter of journalist Richard Madeley, couldnt contain her giggling while shooting the video as she zoomed into his hospital socks.
While in his hospital bed and gown, James explained how the operation would work: "Theyre gonna open my spinal column up with my spinal cord and shave the disk. Fingers crossed it all goes well, thanks for all the lovely messages.
"Ill be back on my feet soon and hopefully waking straight, happy, not in pain and can sleep properly and all the other hell bits gone. Love you."
He captioned the video: 'Operation day! Fingers crossed my back pain will be gone and I can walk, sit and sleep pain free again!
'Catch you all on the other side,' he followed the message with two fire emojis.
Chloe was quick to comment: "I like it when you preview the op with your hands."
Supportive fans sent good luck messages to the sportsman telling him Good luck big man! and Hope all goes well mate.
After the surgery James posted a second video reassuring fans and thanking wife Chloe for "feeding me soup and keeping me company".
He said: "Made it through, I can wiggle my toes and hands. The surgeon says the disk was way more prolapsed than he thought it was but its good to get it out.
"Hopefully I will be back up and running but I survived and things are looking up.
"Thanks for all the love and kind words and to my friends and fans I love you I will see you back, I wouldnt say break dancing because I couldnt break dance before but see you."
