Johnny Depp fans all seemed to say the same thing after picking up on the actors "weird" accent during his eulogy at Shane MacGowan's funeral.

The Hollywood star who was born in Kentucky, USA, seemed to distract viewers who had tuned in for the live funeral service that was available for streaming. With many hoping to pay their last respects to the late singer.

Shane MacGowan, who originates from Dublin, Ireland, sadly passed away at the age of 65 last week after he'd lost his battle against pneumonia. The Pogues frontman had left hospital but later needed to return after contracting viral encephalitis, a condition that causes the brain to swell.

His online funeral took place on Friday 8 December, with his good friend Johnny stepping up to say a few words. His tribute was touching as he read Prayer of Faithful at the Fairytale Of New York star's funeral.

However, his accent appeared to baffle those who were watching online. With many taking to their keyboards asking others if they had detected an Irish accent during his speech.

One person noted: "I'm sure Johnny Depp was trying to do an Irish accent in his eulogy!" While a second agreed: "Did I imagine Johnny Depp's Irish accent or was that really a thing?" As a third added: "Weird, that sounded like an Irish accent to me from Johnny Depp."

Others suggested that their close-knit bond and having played a few songs together must have rubbed off on the Pirates Of The Caribbean star. One online user commented: "The accent must have rubbed off on him!!"

Back in 2018 their unlikely friendship was highlight after Johnny attended Shane and his wife Victoria's wedding. At the time the Edward Scissorhands star said: "His wife Victoria is a wonderful partner for Shane," adding, 'they're best friends, and I've seen that continue over these many years under all kinds of duress."

Johnny wasn't the only person to step up and read out an eulogy, with Shane's sister Siobhan and his widower Victoria taking to the podium with heartfelt words. Progues music also played throughout the emotional ceremony.

Alongside Johnny's reading, Shane's sister Siobhan and widow Victoria also read out eulogies, with music from the Pogues also featuring in the ceremony.

Back in 1987, the Pogues topped the charts with the Christmas classic Fairytale Of New York but never actually made it to number one. Shane's band had been denied the top spot by the Pet Shop Boys with You Were Always On My Mind.

This Christmas, and following Shane's tragic death it is expected that Fairytale Of New York will make it to number one in his memory. With the song already smashing streaming records.
