Katie Price has disclosed who the true "love of her life is" and it's neither current husband Lee Andrews nor Peter Andre. In an upcoming Sky documentary series about the glamour model's tumultuous life, the mother-of-five hints that former boyfriend Dane Bowers was the one that slipped away.
The couple were together for two years from 1998 to 2000 a period when Katie's fame as her alter ego Jordan was at its peak. In Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, singer Dane is one of the star's ex-partners featured in the four-part documentary as she reflects on her 30 years in the limelight.
"Dane Bowers! I used to adore his songs. Why am I grinning? He was the love of my life. Did you tell him that?" Katie asks her off-camera interviewer after being informed they had also spoken to Dane for the series.
"Why did he muck it up? He'll probably point the finger at me," she continues. "We just locked eyes," Katie reminisces about meeting the Another Level singer at a film premiere.
"And yes, he might have been the chubby one, but looks aren't everything. I started chatting to him and thought 'I fancy you'", reports the Mirror.
"From the outset, everything went smoothly. I remember adoring his music. We always used to play Boyz II Men and make love. He was quite cocky but very attentive to me. I just recall when we kissed, it was amazing. I loved Dane. Yes, I did."
The sentiment was reciprocated, with Dane confessing in his separate interview: "We were in love 100%. We were comfortable very early."
Katie reveals: "It all seemed so perfect, but he could be quite controlling, he didn't like some of the shoots I did."
She says her nearly nude photoshoots caused a strain in their relationship.
Tensions also began to surface when Dane collaborated with Spice Girls legend Victoria Beckham on a song. "The relationship started to change as if he... as if I was nothing and it was all about Victoria," Katie remembers, scoffing as she repeats Victoria's name several times, sounding irritated.
Katie briefly acquiesced to Dane's demands, and dressed more modestly in shoots, but their love affair ended when she was offered the opportunity to shoot a risqu calendar while Dane prohibited her from joining him on a work trip.
"I gave her an ultimatum. 'If you do that, I promise you it's over," Dane confesses in retrospect. "I don't think she believed me."
However, undaunted, Katie proceeded with the shoot and the calendar. "Dane is not going to be happy about this, I can't do a calendar and not be sexy."
True to his word, Dane ended things and the couple split, leaving Katie devastated. "He didn't want to know me. I cried so much. And he left the flat. I just remember I was on my own and devastated. I took a whole load of pills," Katie then tells the camera.
Katie's brother and mum then reflect on Katie's overdose attempt, recalling how she was holding a picture of Dane in the hospital.
Katie says: "I think it was attention. Did I really want to kill myself? No I just wanted him to want me and I thought doing that he would no how much I love him and I would get him back. No, he still didn't want to know."
She then reveals she only got involved with Dwight Yorke to try and get back at Dane. She explains: "With Dwight, no it wasn't love at all. It was f**king massive revenge on Dane. Plays for Man United, the football team he supports, in a different calibre to what Dane is. "But no he(Dane) didn't want to know.
"I was like a lunatic. Kept crying, didn't eat."
