Chart topper Lewis Capaldi is battling an unusual phobia involving a fear of sea life.

The Scottish megastar, who already has to deal with a number of other health issues including Tourettes syndrome and anxiety, avoids entering the sea as he's frightened of what lurks beneath. The official term for having an irrational fear of the sea is thalassophobia, and Lewis is attempting to overcome his condition by swimming in the ocean.

Lewis explained: I hate any sort of sea life - I don't think Im offending any of them - I hate sea life in general. Im just scared of them. Usually I wouldnt even get in the sea, but Im doing it.

Lewis began overcoming his phobia while on tour in Australia last December, but nobody told him about the local Groupers - giant fish dubbed the labradors of the sea.

The Survive hitmaker laughed: Im really glad I didnt know that at the time. I really hate fishbut I swam, I was in the drink.

Lewis has been back in the public eye of late thanks to a memorable guest star appearance in the new Taylor Swift video for Opalite.

Lew, who plays a snapper in the 90s themed vid, got the invite following an appearance on the Graham Norton Show where he was sat on the couch next to Swift.

At the time a big hoo-ha was made about the appearance because Norton brought up the subject of Lewis having new music to which the Scot replied, I was told not to talk about my new album.

The Internet was abuzz with gossip afterwards assuming Taylor had made that request and didnt want Lewis promoting music when she had a new album to talk about.

Now Lewis has opened up about the incident calling the entire reaction hogwash".

He explained: "I saw a TikTok about that.

Its a woman being like, 'Taylor did this and shes evil and this and that', and thats like completely made up. Basically my EP hadnt been announced yet. So then I was like, 'oh, right. I was told by my label, dont tell people before you go on. Its not going to be announced yet, so dont tell people'.

"And then we went on Graham Norton and Graham said, 'oh, youve got this new EP coming out' and I was like, 'Oh, I was, I thought I wasnt meant to mention it'. Thats where that came out.

"And then I think because Taylor had asked, 'who said that?' Yeah, so it was sh*t.

Clearly it didnt ruin their friendship as Lewis got the call a week later to join her in the Opalite vid.
