Mary Berry has admitted she'll "be in heaven" during a recent podcast about some major home decisions.
Dame Mary has enjoyed a long and respected career for decades. Her popularity soared even higher during the 2010s when she served as a judge on The Great British Bake Off. During her career, she has also penned 75 cookbooks. Since leaving the programme, Mary Berry has continued to be an influential voice in the world of baking.
In recent times, she has opened up more about her wellbeing and has lately reflected on planning for the years ahead at 91 years of age. During an appearance on the Grow, Cook, Eat, Arrange podcast, she opened up on her garden decisions.
Mary revealed she had to make a particular choice about which evergreens to purchase, acknowledging she couldn't afford to hang around for them to mature, reports the Express.
She said: "Evergreens, a yew is, we put hedges in a yew. And obviously you should buy evergreens like a yew. I suppose about two foot high and wait".
"Well I'll be in heaven then so we had to buy them fairly big, I suppose they were about four foot because we needed them to get to the top of the tennis court netting."
Mary explained that she required them to reach a particular height to provide privacy at the front of her property, preventing passersby from looking in.
She explained: "And also we wanted them at the front of the house because people walking along outside could peer in and now, in six years, it's well above six foot, which is a joy."
While Mary recognises she's ageing, her health has become a topic of interest for many.
Earlier this year, she confessed that one thing she steers clear of is processed foods. Speaking on the Lessons From Our Mothers podcast, Mary revealed she prefers to buy fresh food from her local butcher or supermarket.
She said: "I avoid processed foods. Absolutely definitely. I love to shop at a farm shop and I don't mind knobbly vegetables. I go to my supermarket, I go to the butchers. If you go to a butchers you'll get advice as well as good meat."
Mary has also shared insights into her exercise routine alongside the foods she avoids. She admitted to shunning the gym, opting instead for other forms of physical activity.
She told the Mail: "I don't do gyms. What a waste of time! What's wrong with having a nice run out with a dog? The outdoors is what makes us healthy, what makes us well."
