Molly-Mae and Tommy fans baffled by baby name Midas after spotting one glaring problem

Fans of Molly-Mae Hague have questioned the meaning behind her newborn son's name, which was revealed last night. The baby's father, Tommy Fury, had pledged to display the name on his boxing shorts during his match against Eddie Hall, the world's strongest man.

However, the 27-year-old boxer went a step further and showcased the name 'MIDAS' on the back of his jacket. The choice of name, associated with a king known for his foolishness and greed in Greek and Roman mythology, has divided opinions.

One fan took to Instagram to express their disbelief: "Plz tell me it's a joke they called the baby Midas." Yet, many were quick to support Molly-Mae and Tommy's decision. "Midas means King. I hope when you have a baby people don't take the p*** out of the name you choose," one supporter retorted.

Another defended: "It's a God name. Good job it's not your baby!" A third chimed in: "I'm defending a woman who literally just had a baby... the last thing a postpartum woman needs is people flooding her comments with this bs.", reports the Mirror.

A fourth pointed out: "It's a common Greek name."

While a fifth added: "It's Greek origin is 'famous for the golden touch'. If I were a betting girl I'd say that's more so why he was given the name."

In Greek and Roman mythology, King Midas of Phrygia is renowned for his foolishness and greed, having been granted the wish that everything he touched would turn to gold.

The following day, Midas awoke, eager to see if his wish had come true. He touched a small table which instantly transformed into gold, followed by a chair and his bathtub.

This myth led to the popular phrase 'the Midas touch', used to describe someone who is exceptionally successful or profitable in their pursuits. However, Midas soon discovered the curse of this gift when he inadvertently turned his food, drink, and even his daughter into a golden statue after embracing her.

In despair and fear, he prayed to the gods to remove the curse. Midas was instructed to go to the river Pactolus and wash his hands.

Legend has it that he was astounded to see gold flowing from his hands. The ancient Greeks claimed they found gold on the river banks.

Upon returning home, everything Midas had touched returned to normal. He hugged his daughter in sheer joy and decided to share his immense wealth with his people.

From then on, Midas became a better person, generous and thankful for all the good things in his life. His people led a prosperous life and when he passed away, it's said they all mourned their beloved king.

Molly-Mae and Tommy welcomed their second child on 3 June. In a shared social media post, she posted a picture of herself, her fianc and their daughter, captioning it: "....and then there were 4," accompanied by a white love heart.

They are already parents to their three year old daughter Bambi.
