Oasis set to follow in music rival Blurs footsteps after successful reunion tour

While fans excitedly await for Oasis' big announcement later this week, Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside the year-long success of their music rivals Blur

Rock legends Liam and Noel Gallagher have fuelled rumours of an Oasis reunion 15 years after their split.

The Mancunian brothers, renowned for their fiery feud over the decades, sent fans wild when they hinted an announcement will be made on Tuesday morning (August 27) . Taking to X formerly known as Twitter they each shared a video showing the date 27.08.24 before the screen flickers to say 8am.

The date and time are written in the style of the famous Oasis logo. The clip was also shared on the official Oasis X account.

Now, Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside the success of their music rivals Blur following their reunion tour last year.

Highly anticipated Reunion

The London group first formed in 1988 and soon grew a huge following across the country with their hit singles such as Song 2, Parklife and Girls & Boys. But like with many bands, the group decided to break up in 2003 following a clash in creative differences.

Over the years, the hitmakers have got back together, most famously back in 2009 but went their separate ways after a few gigs across the UK. Yet in November 2022, the group sent their loyal legion of fans wild when they announced their reunion tour.

And that wasnt all. The group wowed fans further when they launched their comeback album, The Ballad of Darren which became a huge hit.

Speaking about their new album to music publication KROQ, James said: Its eight years since we last did anything even when we actually split up, it didnt take that long to get it together.

So there was a certain amount of jeopardy potentially at the beginning, trying to make a new record at this stage of your career. Most bands dont even like each other 30 years in, let alone make decent records.

I suppose theres a lot to blame for. I guess if you like the band, its a good band. We filmed the shows at Wembley, and I never thought wed top Glastonbury 2009.

The group reconnected to celebrate their 35th anniversary where they performed a string of gigs at Wembley for the first time ever. Due to the overwhelming demand, the reunion gig turned into a two-parter with a second show announced days later.

Their second show, which took place on July 9, 2023, went on to become their biggest ever gig according to frontman Damon Albarn himself. Speaking to Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, the group opened up about how their weekend gigs went with 90,000 fans screaming their songs.

Damon admitted: The Sunday night was the best ever concert. Bassist Alex James added: The other good thing about Wembley, its really, really loud.

"You cant go that loud in Hyde Park. It did feel like a pub gig, just the people going absolutely insane. The infamous bad boys couldnt help but cause a bit of mayhem backstage, with the musician confessing that he made the most of the England teams available dressing rooms.

He chuckled: Theres a massive communal shower. I put them all on and ran around singing.

After their successful string of gigs, the band travelled across the pond to perform at Coachella. But unlike their rave reviews from Wembley, the band were met with a lacklustre crowd at the summer festival.

The iconic Britpop band played a 13-song set at the California-based festival. They also brought out the Torres Martines Cahuilla Bird Singers, a group of tribal singers from the Mojave Desert, where Coachella is held.

When they performed their 1994 hit single Girls & Boys, the frontman tried to get everyone to sing along to the chorus multiple times, but it was met with radio silence. Devastated with the reaction from the crowd, he declared that the band would not be returning to the festival.

He fumed: Youre never seeing us again, so you might as well f***ing sing it. Clips of the mortifying moment soon circulated online, with many fans slamming the festival goers as having the worst vibes and declaring they did not deserve to be graced by the presence of Blur.

After a fun-filled year with the group, Albarn revealed that the band would be taking a break from stardom until further notice. Speaking to the French publication Les Inrockuptibles, he said: It is time to wrap up this campaign.

Its too much for me. It was the right thing to do and an immense honour to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah, blah, blah.

Im not saying I wont do it again, it was a beautiful success, but I'm not dwelling on the past. Its fair to say their year-long reunion was a triumph, and sent the group home with a hefty pay cheque.

In May, it was revealed by The Sun that Albarn reportedly earns up to 16k a day from his work with the band and his virtual band Gorillaz. Documents filed at Companies House for March 2022 to 2023 show he made 5.9million in profits with his firms G Tour, LLP and Humanz LLP.

These firms have assets of 10.4million after he set them up in 2017. Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Oasis will follow in their rivals footsteps and possibly outlive their London rivals.
