Johnny Depp suffers own Photoshop fail posting fake pic after Kate Middleton snap

Johnny Depp has become the latest celebrity to be embroiled in a Photoshop row, after he accidentally shared a faked photograph of himself and an Oscar winner

Oscars 2024: Dog appears to clap in the audience

Johnny Depp has accidentally sparked a Photoshop controversy just days after Kate Middleton had her own.

The iconic actor shared a doctored image of himself and Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. The actor was trying to congratulate his friend on his first-ever Oscar win when he posted what he believed to be an old photo of them together on Instagram.

However, the black-and-white image turned out to be a fake that had been circulating online for years. The original picture actually shows Downey with his ex-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker back in 1988.

After realising his mistake, Depp quickly removed the post and later shared a genuine photo of the pair, jokingly writing: "Let's try this again... congrats to my dear friend."

Downey won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Oppenheimer. The actor, from Iron Man, who played Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan's famous film, had a big night at the Oscars over the weekend.

At the glitzy event in Los Angeles on Sunday, Robert thanked his lawyer for "trying to get me insured and bailing me out of the hoosgow", reports the Mirror. "I'd like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order," the 58 year old actor started his speech.

"I'd like to thank my vet, I mean wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life."

He went on: "That's why I'm here. Here's my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it. I stand here before you a better man because of it.

"What we do is meaningful and the stuff we decide to make it important." Robert gave a shout-out to his whole team, stylist and lawyer of over 40 years, adding: "The half of which he spent trying to get me insured and bailing me out of the hoosgow, thanks bro."

He's been up for two Oscars before for his roles in 1992's Chaplin and 2008's Tropic Thunder, but never won. He's done well at other events this year, adding an Academy Award to his collection that includes a Golden Globe, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Critics' Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor.
