Ricky Gervais has crowed he was paid 500,000 ($673,000 )to fling insults at `weirdos, luvvies and perverts' when hosting the Golden Globes.
The star of The Office and Afterlife presented five of the glitzy Hollywood awards bashes between 2010 and 2020 - shocking a host of the worlds biggest stars with no-holds-barred putdowns many of which have gone viral.
One fan suggested on X the telly comic had done it for the thrill of speaking 'truth to power on a work night out'.
But Ricky replied he had done it for the cash.
The fan messaged him: Ricky Gervais really thinks his hosting the golden globes was brave. He really thinks he spoke truth to power at a work night out.
Gervais, 64, replied: Nope. I think I got paid 500 grand to insult weirdos, luvvies & perverts.
He has said previously of the dos: Do I pander to the 200 billionaires in the room or the 200 million people at home sitting in their (underwear) drinking beer who arent winning awards, who arent billionaires?
Its a no-brainer for a comedian. Im a jester. I play to the other peasants in the mud. I wasnt going in terrible.
"Think of the things I could have said. Think of the f****** terrible things I could have joked about. Its off the charts the terrible things I could say.
One frequently-shared Gervais gag featured film director Roman Polanski who fled to Europe in 1978 the night before he was due to be sentenced for unlawful sex with a minor.
Gervais praised 2015 movie Spotlight, saying: The Catholic Church are furious about the film as it exposes that 5% of all their priests have repeatedly molested children and been allowed to continue to work without punishment.
Roman Polanski called it the best date movie ever.
