The Daily Star: News with a Wink

Vicky Pattison breaks down as she opens up on 'suffocating' pressure to have kids

Former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison has opened up about her fertility journey with husband Ercan Ramadan, admitting she sometimes feels "lost" without children as she discusses egg freezing and motherhood

Vicky Pattison has delivered a heartfelt update on her fertility journey, confessing she occasionally feels "lost" as she revealed her dreams of building a family with husband Ercan Ramadan.

The former Geordie Shore personality, 38, grew emotional while discussing motherhood on the BBC's Sort Your Life Out Unpacked podcast, acknowledging she never envisioned reaching this point in her life without children.

Fighting back tears, Vicky revealed that while she had spent years concentrating on developing her career and never felt prepared to become a mum, her perspective has now shifted. She confided, "I didn't think I'd be this age without a baby or a family."

Vicky, who wed her husband Ercan in 2024 following several years together, said she had always been satisfied with the direction her life had taken, but conceded that desiring a baby has become far more important now she feels prepared.

She said: "It's just the way the cookie crumbles and like how life sometimes like presents you with different things and different opportunities and stuff. And I've never really felt ready until now.", reports the Mirror.

"It's wild but like something just clicks, and the minute you feel ready it's like you need a baby straight away. And all my whole life I felt so content and so happy and so proud of the things I was doing, and now all of a sudden, because I don't have a baby, I feel a bit lost."

Vicky disclosed that she and Ercan are attempting not to heap excessive pressure on themselves as they contemplate their shared future. Lauding her spouse, she continued by saying she's confident he'll become "such a great dad".

The television star had previously disclosed that she preserved her eggs at 35 in an effort to take charge of her reproductive options.

The procedure led to three embryos being preserved, which she explained has provided the pair with peace of mind while they persist in their family planning efforts.

She also voiced optimism that fertility preservation procedures will eventually become more widely available, stating she'd welcome seeing egg preservation offered to more women at a reduced price point.

Attempting to lighten the heartfelt discussion with some levity, Vicky joked that Ercan was "having a lovely time", before confessing that patience has never ranked amongst her virtues.

The reality television figure has discussed motherhood openly in recent times.

Chatting to Women's Health UK last year, she confessed she still harboured "a huge question mark over motherhood" and characterised the pressure to bear children following marriage as "suffocating".

She outlined how she had grafted to establish her professional life and recognised that taking a break from it to begin a family seemed intimidating.

Vicky has also emerged as a passionate champion for egg preservation, though she has recognised the procedure is costly and remains beyond many people's reach. She stated: "Women shouldn't be beholden to this invisible timeline. We're fed this narrative that we can have it all and do whatever we want, but it's not necessarily true. In women's lives, there has to be a lot of compromise involved.

"I met Ercan when I was 31 and wanted to give our relationship breathing space... It's been the best thing I've ever done. I felt really suffocated, on a kind of conveyor belt, and now I feel free."
