The Voice coach LeAnn Rimes says she's been 'scarred' but moving on after 'brutal' childhood

Signing up to be a coach on The Voice is helping LeAnn Rimes finally beat her demons over the music industry.

The chart-topper, 42, has endured tough times since starting out as a singer when she was a child. Many of the experiences shes had were so bad they left her scarred.

But shes now getting a chance to move on from it thanks to a stint on reality TV. LeAnn told the Daily Star Sunday: Ive learned so much in this business. It can be brutal.

The chance to give back as a coach on The Voice UK has been really healing for me. I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I didnt know what a high it would be to see people blossom in front of my eyes. It is a beautiful experience.

She said: Ive always been very critical when it comes to musicians. I have a critical ear. So I wasnt sure how I would navigate this world. But I think Ive softened in my own age. Connecting on a human level is what its really about. Music is what we connect through.

Ive learned that Im a good teacher. I never thought that Id see myself in that way. But now I realise I have so much to offer. LeAnn is keen to make sure she does her best for her acts.

She added: Ive surprised myself with how invested Ive become. I have found myself super invested. Ive been emailing these artists every day. Ive been on the phone with them. I have really made lifelong relationships.

You really want to see these people win, you really do. LeAnn is competing against rival coaches Sir Tom Jones, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.

But she insists the rivalry is all friendly. She said: Everybody has been super kind. I loved going into work every day that Ive done on this show.

The series continues on Saturday on ITV1.
