  • Netflix has agreed a 54 billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery in one of the biggest deals in Hollywood history. The streaming giant says the deal will deliver up to 2 billion in savings.
  • The US firm won a drawn-out bidding battle to acquire the studio groups film and television operations.
  • The deal includes the HBO Max streaming service. It will also tie up Warner Bros major franchises such as Harry Potter and Game Of Thrones and Netflix hit Stranger Things.
  • The takeover, which will reshape the global streaming market, is pending approval from competition regulators in multiple countries. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: We can give audiences more of what they love and define the next century of storytelling.
  • But questions remain over the future of HBO Max as a standalone service.
