Alan Shearer gave a hilarious response when he was asked about his daughter Hollies relationship with England rugby star Joe Marchant.

Hollie, 28, and Marchant, 27, have been dating since February 2022 and her Premier League all-time record goalscoring dad is quite the fan of the Stade Francais ace. Marchants success in his rugby career seemingly plays a big part of his support too.

Marchant was in excellent form for England throughout the Rugby World Cup, but the Red Roses suffered heartbreak in the semi-final after they were beaten 15-16 by South Africa. Marchant and his England team-mates can expect a good welcome home, and seemingly the Newcastle United hero will be one of the first to congratulate Marchant on his time in France.

Shearer was asked about his daughters relationship with the England rugby ace and he had the perfect response as he expressed his relief his daughter hadnt brought home someone from a familiar sport. He quipped: Im just glad its not a footballer.

Marchant and the Premier League legend appear to enjoy a good relationship with plenty of banter too judging from social media. Ahead of the World Cup, Marchant and Hollie jetted to Greece for a getaway and the couple posted plenty of pictures during their time away.

One of the snaps saw Marchant posing in a pair of turquoise speedos, seeing Shearer Sr. comment on the post: WTF are the smugglers you have on? in reference to his colourful trunks.

Marchant was a vital part of Englands run in the tournament in France, a country he will soon be calling home. The star is currently preparing for the new season at Stade Francais, who he agreed to join in December last year, bringing an end to an eight-year stay at Harlequins.
