F1 boss gives green light to London Grand Prix and says 'we are ready to discuss it'

F1 supremo Stefano Domenicali has not ruled out a 'London Grand Prix' - admitting a race in the UK capital would be "great".

The concept of a London race alongside the British Grand Prix at Silverstone has long been debated, but plans have now emerged that has fuelled the belief that it could be plausible.

Environmentalists LDN Collective and consultancy firm DAR have proposed a 3.6-mile F1 street circuit in the east of the city that would include a major rejuvenation of the Docklands area.

And a high-speed track with plenty of long straights and chicanes could be ready as early as 2026, with LDN Collective chief executive Max Farrell stating that "there is a general support for the idea."

CEO Domenicali is exploring all the options available to F1 as the sport capitalises on a huge boom in global popularity in recent years.

And the Italian is excited about the prospect of a future place for London on the F1 calendar. "Why not?" he told Sky Sports when asked about a London Grand Prix.

He added: "It would be great I think London has other priorities maybe to tackle, but of course there will be a great project and we will be ready to discuss it."

Dominecali also joked that a London Grand Prix would make for an "easy commute" given that F1's offices are held in the capital.

But he also confirmed that no talks have been held as of yet about proposals to add London to the F1 calendar.

Madrid, meanwhile has already declared interest in creating its own street circuit and Domenicali has recently confirmed that officials in the Spanish capital have ambitious plans that could see the country's race move from Barcelona.

South Africa and Colombia have also been tipped as future F1 hosts and Domenicali is clearly keeping an open mind over more new circuits in the coming years.

The latest addition to the calendar - the Las Vegas Grand Prix - is set to generate huge interest as drivers take to the gambling mecca for the penultimate race of the season in November.
