Chelsea have been mocked on Twitter by non-league club Aldershot Town.

Mauricio Pochettinos squad of stars are currently on their pre-season tour in the United States. They kicked things off by thrashing Wrexham 5-0 and defeating Premier League side Brighton 4-3.

Meanwhile, a Blues XI made up of youngsters took on Aldershot at the sides Recreation Ground, losing 3-1 despite taking the lead just two minutes into the game.

Aldershots social media admin was quick to bask in victory, however, taking to Twitter to rub salt in Chelsea wounds after beating a club officially placed five leagues above them in the football pyramid.

The club account cheekily tweeted: A comfortable victory against mid-table Premier League opposition, referencing the west Londoners dismal 12th placed finish last season, despite splashing 600million on new players.

The unprovoked jibe was seen over 11 million times on Twitter. But while some fans joined in with the banter, others pointed out Chelsea saved Aldershot from financial ruin back in 2013, preventing them from going into administration as Aldershot FC had done in 1992.

One Chelsea fan wrote: Not the First Team so it doesnt count, while another tweeted: You won against a team that arent even adults yet. Well done?

A third laughed: Lol you played our youth team. But yeah, always the ones youve helped, while a fourth user fumed: Shameless.

And a fifth fuming Blues supporter commented: Chelsea literally saved your club from going extinct and this is the first thing you do. Its quite tragic if Im being honest.

Chelsea in 2013 struck up an unlikely partnership with the cash-strapped, newly-relegated club by brokering a two-year deal to stage 25 youth team matches at their stadium. Aldershots former chairman Shahid Azeem said at the time that the Blues had saved the club.

The tweet by Aldershot Town has not been deleted despite the uproar over the joke.
