Aaron Ramsdale renamed 'Hologramsdale' after being embarrassed by cheeky chip

The last thing Aaron Ramsdale would've wanted in light of news Brentford's David Raya is being targeted would be getting beat all ends up by a Panenka penalty - but he went on to be Arsenal's hero

Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale was on the receiving end of a cheeky chip

Aaron Ramsdale was renamed "Hologramsdale" after he was Panenka'd against Monaco - right while Arsenal are busy chasing David Raya.

The Gunners goalkeeper looks set to be getting more competition for his place in the team this season as personal terms have already been agreed with Raya, and talks with Brentford are set to commence.

Ramsdale remains No1 for now, though, and lined up in the Emirates Cup clash against Monaco this evening (August 2), which finished 1-1. Eddie Nketiah cancelled out Youssouf Fofana's opener in the first half.

The two sides then took part in a penalty shootout, with Monaco having the first spot kick. Caio Henrique stepped up and embarrassed Ramsdale by dinking his effort down the middle as the England shot-stopper dived helplessly to his left before seeing the funny side of it, smirking as he got up.

Ruthless Arsenal fans took to Twitter to react, though, with one posting: "Nah Ramsdale just got Panenka'd from the first pen." A second joked: "Hologramsdale."

A third commented: "Ramsdale isnt rated bruv. How can guys try to chip you." And a fourth wrote: "Raya in." Before a fifth echoed: "Ramsdale man, we need Raya."

"We've never won a penalty shoot out since Ramsdale became our number one," claimed a sixth, while a seventh asked: "Is Ramsdale actually going to save a pen this time?"

Well, the England international actually did, denying former Liverpool star Takumi Minamino when he tried to blast his strike down the middle. That was the only missed penalty, so Ramsdale won the shootout for his side.

Arsenal fans put it down to Mikel Arteta playing 4D chess, with one tweeting: "Arteta faked Raya links so Ramsdale would finally save a pen."

"Raya links made Ramsdale save a penalty," similarly shared another, and one quipped: "We get linked with David Raya and suddenly Aaron Ramsdale saves a penalty. Competition is good people."

While Arsenal fans were able to celebrate a seventh Emirates Cup win, it wasn't all good news - as Gabriel Jesus was ruled out with a knee issue which Arteta revealed post-match will keep him sidelined "for a few weeks".
