Sheffield Wednesday have parted company with manager Danny Rohl just 12 days before the start of the new Championship season.

The 36-year-old has established himself as one of the Championship's most exciting young managers since taking charge at Hillsborough in October 2023.

However, his future has been uncertain for weeks after financial issues at the club have left The Owls enduring a turbulent summer so far. And it's now got even worse for Wednesday after the club confirmed Rohl has left the club.

A statement on the club's website reads: "Sheffield Wednesday can confirm the departure of manager Danny Rhl by mutual consent.

"The German coach joined the Owls in October 2023 and oversaw a successful survival mission to maintain our Championship status in his maiden season at Hillsborough.

"Wednesday then consolidated the following term, with Rhl steering the club to a mid-table finish in the second tier.

"Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson and Sal Bibbo have also departed S6.

"Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank Danny and his backroom team for their services and wish them well for the future."

Rohl had been linked with numerous other jobs and missed the first two weeks of pre-season training before he made an unexpected return to the club earlier this month.

According to The Athletic, Rohl's No. 2, Henrik Pedersen, is likely to take over in his place. He was expected to become the club's manager after signing a new deal earlier this month before Rohl returned.

The former Bayern Munich and Southampton coach had been linked with vacancies at the Saints and Leicester, but those positions have now been filled. It remains to be seen where Rohl's next step will be, but it's likely he won't rush into another position.

He leaves Hillsborough with Wednesday in crisis. The Owls are under a number of embargoes following Dejphon Chansiri's failure to pay staff on time.

Key players Josh Windass and Michael Smith were both granted releases, having not been paid. While Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba to Rangers and Samsunspor respectively.

Chansiri has been urged to sell the club with a number of parties said to be interested in taking the reins of the famous old club.
