Harry Amass has seemingly hit back at Ruben Amorim on social media in a now deleted Instagram story.
Amorim seemingly threw his youth players under the bus during his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United's clash with Bournemouth on Monday evening. Amorim had been addressing criticism of his treatment of Kobbie Mainoo - who has found minutes few and far between.
However, In a spectacular rant about the quality of his youth players, Amorim said: "He [Toby Collyer] played [for the first team]. Hes from the academy. He played here. He went to West Bromwich. Hes not playing. He played for Manchester United. So sometimes its not because hes from the academy or whatever.
Its the situation, whats happened. I dont know what is going to be the future [for Mainoo]. Lets see after this match. [Harry] Amass is now struggling in the Championship.
"Chido [Obi] is not always a starter in under 21s. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager!"
And Amass has now hit back at those comments in a now-deleted Instagram story seen by Daily Star Sport. The full-back shared a simple photo holding Wednesday's Player of the Month award - before swiftly deleting the picture.
"Harry Amass has been crowned as the clubs Player of the Month for November," the club said. "The award, in association with mrvegas.com, is voted for by supporters each month and the young loanee has scooped the latest trophy by a landslide margin.
"Amass joined the Owls on loan in September and has since slotted seamlessly into the Wednesday squad. Delivering strong, high energy performances week after week from his left-sided defensive berth, the Manchester United loanee continues to impress.
"The England youth international was an ever-present throughout November and scored his first senior goal in our trip to Southampton.
"With a big majority of the fans vote, Amass becomes our latest Player of the Month, with Barry Bannan and Charlie McNeill second and third. Thank you to everyone who took part in the vote."
United fans had jumped to the defence of Amass on social media - with Sky Sports regular Statman Dave sharing: "Harry Amass has averaged 6.34 ball recoveries p90 in the Championship this season, which puts him in the top 1% of full-backs in the competition.
"Having an excellent season in the second tier."
"Throwing academy kids under the bus is a whole different level of nastiness," one fan said of Amorim's comments. While a second shared: "Harry Amass won player of the month, so hes just lying..."
And another added: "Historically, how often has ripping your own academy players apart to try and make yourself look better, gone well?"
