Carlo Ancelotti 'to leave Real Madrid next week' after Arsenal Champions League exit

Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly leave Real Madrid at the end of the month after Los Blancos were dumped out of the Champions League in the quarter finals

Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly leave Real Madrid next week.

The Italian football legend expressed uncertainty about his future following the team's crushing 5-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals. And the 65-year-old's time in Madrid could be up before the end of the season.

With seven games remaining, Ancelotti's team trails Barcelona by four points in the La Liga title race, and their only hope for silverware this season lies in the Copa Del Rey Final against Barcelona on April 26. It's reported by Sky Sports that the final will be Ancelotti's final match in charge of the European giants.

However, the report adds that Ancelotti is poised to take over as Brazil's manager, marking his first foray into international football.

Ancelotti has long been linked with the Selecao job but should he leave his role at the Bernabeu early, it remains to be seen how Real will approach the final games of the La Liga campaign, with them currently trailing Barcelona at the top of the table by four points.

When questioned about his future as Real Madrid's manager after the Arsenal defeat, Ancelotti said, "It could be this year, next year when my contract runs out... there's no problem about it.

"But when I am done here, I will be grateful to this club. It could be tomorrow, in one year, or in 10 years, but I will be grateful to this club. And that's it. Full stop."

"We have done very well in the last seasons but this year we have had to suffer. Things haven't gone as expected but in sport it happens because there are no unbeatable teams."

He praised Arsenal's performance, admitting, "Arsenal were better than us. We tried to do our best. Maybe the overturned penalty was a turning point. That could have changed it.
