Fans and critics of Cristiano Ronaldo have been given reason to celebrate as the 'greatest of all time' depending on who you ask is set to become a playable character in a popular fighting game. Meaning, players can beat up others as the 40-year-old and haters can take out their frustrations on the divisive footballer.
The Portuguese international is set to appear in the Japanese arcade fighting game Fatal Fury: City of Wolves when it is released on April 24. The news was announced by gaming chief Kenji Matsubara, who was "delighted" to declare the "world-renowned" footballer will appear in the next instalment of the games' series. Ronald will also be able to do his signature SIU celebration in game and was seen using a ball in certain fighting sequences.
A press release for the game reads: "SNK's beloved Fatal Fury series first hit the market in 1991, spearheading the fighting game boom of the 1990s that swept the industry thereafter. GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES (released in 1999) has, for some time, served as the franchise's most recent instalment.
"But that is all about to change: 26 years on, a brand-new entry FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is set to arrive on the scene! FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves features a unique art style that stimulates the senses, an innovative REV System that supercharges the excitement, plus a host of other battle systems even more robust than before.
"The game also breathes new life into the series by introducing two distinct control schemes (ensuring fun and excitement for newcomers and veterans alike) as well as other fresh features and elements. The streets of South Town are a hotbed of action, wild dreams, and even wilder ambition. Here, at long last, a new legend is about to unfold..."
Fans and haters took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their feelings about CR7 becoming a player in the game.
One said: "how can you still be so desperate for money". However, a Fatal Fury enthusiast was not impressed, saying: "They are ruining Fatal Fury by adding random athletes."
Another said: "Nice. I can save my money if you put a person like this in the game."
A Ronaldo fan said: "Let's go! Cristiano the Warrior will be exciting to watch and play! Siuu!!" Another fan said: "The character will never lose!"
