FA Cup quarter-final draw as Liverpool handed nightmare and Arsenal get dream tie

With the FA Cup entering the business stage, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leeds United and co found out who their opponents will be in the quarter-finals

It was an interesting weekend of FA Cup action(Image: 2024 Manchester United FC)

Liverpool will face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final. It's a nightmare draw for Arne Slot's side, whose best chance for silverware now lies in the famous old competition.

Meanwhile, Arsenal managed to avoid drawing a Premier League side for the fourth consecutive time. Having already beaten Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic and Mansfield Town, Mikel Arteta's side, who only just, overcame Mansfield Town, were drawn to face Southampton away.

They were not the only London side to enjoy a slice of luck, as Chelsea, who needed extra-time to get past Wrexham, were handed a home clash against League One's bottom side Port Vale. This was the best case scenario for Liam Rosenior's men, who are still in the Champions League, while also competing for a top four spot in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola would have been furious with the draw. They overcame Newcastle United in their last clash and must now overcome Liverpool, a side who has inflicted plenty of pain on the Catalan.

The loudest moment of the draw took place at the London Stadiun, where West Ham and Brentford will be competing for a place in the quarter-final. The winner of that clash managed to avoid the big six sides. The victor will host Leeds United in their last eight-clash.

FA Cup quarter-final draw now complete after Joe Cole's Arsenal dig

Joe Cole had a cheeky dig at Arsenal after their FA Cup quarter-final opponents were confirmed. Mikel Arteta's side were drawn to face Southampton on the South Coast for their clash.

When the draw was made, Cole said: "They're getting a lot of good draws aren't they? The fates are conspiring."

Nightmare football draws the FA will be hoping to avoid

Eight most embarrassing football draw blunders of all time ahead of FA Cup quarter-final draw

FA Cup draws are normally slick, organised and efficient. The balls go in the pot, they come back out of the pot - one-by-one of course - the numbers are noted and that's that, all while everybody stands there in suits, like CIA agents waiting at a bus stop.

However, not everything always goes to plan, as many other football organisations found out in hilarious fashion. If you would like to reminisce on chaotic football draws, feel free to have a look at the 8 worst football draw blunders ever.

FA Cup fifth round score

FA Cup fifth-round scores as time ticks down towards quarter-final draw

We are less than half an hour away from the FA Cup quarter-final draw. While you wait for the excitement, let's take a look at what happened in the last round and how our teams got to this stage.

Arsenal struggled to a 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town while Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side frightened Chelsea, who needed extra-time to secure a 4-2 victory.

The biggest shock of the weekend was Port Vale overcoming Sunderland 1-0. If losing to League One's rock bottom side was not humiliating enough, then the winner coming from Newcastle United supporter Ben Waine rubbed salt into the wounds.

As well as those results, here were the scores from the team's in the pot.

Fulham 0-1 Southampton

Wolves 1-3 Liverpool

Newcastle United 1-3 Manchester City

Leeds United 3-0 Norwich City

West Ham vs Brentford will take place later this evening

With his hair seemingly surpassing Maraouane Fellaini levels, the United Strand, whose real name is Frank Ilett, is not a happy man. Watch the below clip to see how unhappy he is.
