A football icon once bonked his ex-wife's niece, got her pregnant and then tied the knot with her, in what his heartbroken WAG described as a "cruel betrayal".

Brazilian forward Hulk, who was known for his hammer of a left foot, is best remembered for his spells with Porto in Portugal and Zenit Saint Petersburg in Russia. And, in 2019, he was back in Brazil turning out for Atletico Mineiro.

While he was still scoring on the pitch, Hulk's personal life was all change as that summer he decided to end his 12-year relationship with ex-wife Iran Angelo, with whom he shared three children.

And less than one year after the split, shocking reports emerged linking Hulk to an alleged affair with Irans niece Camila Angelo, who he then married two months later.

Reports suggested the pair wed so Camila could gain a visa to live in China when he played for Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

Hulk, who turned 40 late last month, was accused of starting a relationship with his then niece while he and his wife were still together.

Iran slammed the wedding with a scathing social media post: "Today is a hard day to swallow, a day that reveals how far betrayal can go when it comes from the people we least expect.

"If my mother were alive, I am sure she would not be able to bear such monstrosity. Seeing a granddaughter, who grew up under her roof, betray her own family in such a cruel way would be an impossible blow to overcome.

And a heartbroken Iran was quick to further break her silence to Portuguese outlet Record: "I wake up and go to sleep without understanding why everything happened to me. The pain is very great, sometimes I think it will tear my heart out. She was a daughter to me."

Iran added: "I gave everything to this girl since she came into the world. I sacrificed my dreams so many times to make her dreams come true.

"And here I'm not just talking about material goods, because these are easy to give when you have money, but love, affection, attention, respect...everything.

"She knew my weaknesses, insecurities, pain, fears and had my unconditional love. She managed my life, and for me everything what she said was good, it was correct, it was ethical.

"She was perfect in everything and I gave her the direction of my life. If I was wrong, my God, it was because I loved and trusted too much."

Hulk has been open about his second marriage

Camila, who had shared many pics with Iran on Instagram prior to the falling-out, even wrote a long message to her aunt in early 2020 which she shared to her followers.

She wrote: "I needed to tell you some things that unfortunately circumstances do not allow me to say personally. Although it is irrelevant to you now, I love you very much and care about you, so I am speaking here.

"I really want you to know things that maybe everyone will talk about differently, mere speculation, but I don't really judge them because outsiders know absolutely nothing and most of the time just want the situation to be worse.

"It's been very hard to face all this, but I wouldn't do it if it wasn't true. I never imagined it could happen, but we don't rule our heart, no one is immune or exempt from it. Live the greatest of feelings.

"I'm sorry for everything. If I could choose, we wouldn't be going through this, but life doesn't spin the way we imagine it to. He showed me that there was no chance of a possible return, so we allowed ourselves to live."

"Another son, another blessing that God gave me. My children didn't know until now and I had agreed with my wife to tell them when I picked them up to spend the holidays with me, only on the 16th.

Hulk later admitted he was unfaithful to his wife of 12 years during their marriage but denied he cheated on her with her niece.

"I never had a relationship with Camila when I was married," Hulk said on Instagram. "I am a man. I was not happy in my marriage.

"I had countless reasons. I spent my entire marriage betraying Iran. She lived a single life. I just wanted to have the status of wife of the Hulk."

He accepted he had been her uncle, adding: "When I met Iran, I was 21, today I am 34," he said. "Today Camila is 32 years old. Thirteen years ago, Camila was 19; Iran at the time was 39."

Hulk said they only started dating after he had left his ex-wife, adding: "Camila came to China. I don't think I'm an ugly person and I'm young. Camila is young and extremely beautiful. We ended up getting involved. We were single.

"We came back from China and told the family when you came back and you went to media. I have a clear conscience and peace. If you want to continue cursing me and treating me like a monster, the choice is yours. But criticise on top of the truth."

He then accused Iran of telling lies before stating he only stayed with her because she fell pregnant with their first child.

Hulk is still playing in Brazil, turning out for Fluminense, who he joined in May.
