Fantasy Premier League have introduced a radical new change to points scoring.
FPL has an incredibly dedicated, and in some cases, obsessed fanbase, who have not taken well to the latest announcement in the way in which players can amass points. The Premier League posted on their website about the change in point scoring for defenders and midfielders, saying that the main consideration when picking outfield players in FPL has been their attacking output.
They highlighted this is predominantly the case with defenders, considering how quickly the clean sheet bonus of four points can disappear. While attacking full-backs have been the most popular selections, with centre-backs considered on their threat from set pieces in the opposition box rather than their main job of protecting their own goal.
The avoidance of defensive midfielders by players has also been addressed because of the lack of regular attacking returns and only getting one point for a clean sheet the same for an attacking midfielder or winger also positioned as a midfielder who have a higher return ceiling.
Therefore, FPL have announced the addition of defensive contributions this season to help reward players for their involvement in a match.
This season, any defender who reaches a combined total of 10 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT) in a single match will score two FPL points.
The rule is similar to goalkeepers earning an extra point when they make three saves in a game. However, CBIT points are capped at two for 10 interventions, and will not receive an extra two points if they reach 20 CBIT.
Fans have given mixed reactions to the announcement, with one FPL account ranting: Totally unacceptable scoring. Let it make sense please, when defenders score, their point per goal is higher than when a forward score because the forwards are more likely to see goals pee match.
Now you bring a scoring system to balance up the relevance of defence and you set a higher mark for forward, who is less likely to get defensive points than a defender who is always active at the back. Doesn't add up.

But others argued it adds an interesting dimension to the game, one argued: Excellent addition rewarding defenders but not creating an over-complicated scoring system. Fair play!
While another quipped that Trent Alexander-Arnolds exit to Real Madrid is no longer a miss for FPL fans, saying: They added a defending stat as soon as Trent left!
If this years new scoring metric was in play last year, Evertons James Tarkowski would have benefited the most scoring an additional 44 points. While Chelseas Moises Caicedo would have bagged an extra 42 points.
