Jurgen Klopp confirms when he will return to Liverpool after emotional welcome at Anfield

Many thought Jurgen Klopp would never be in the Liverpool dugout again, but the iconic Reds boss was back for a Liverpool FC Foundation match

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he will return to Liverpool next season - for another Reds Foundation fixture. The legendary German manager was back at the Merseysiders' ground as a squad comprising cult Liverpool legends faced off against a team of former Borussia Dortmund stars.

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt returned to the Reds and battled to a 2-2 draw with the Bundesliga outfit's ex-players. It turned out to be a poignant moment for Liverpool supporters and Klopp, as they approach the two-year milestone of his exit from the club.

With Arne Slot facing mounting pressure, numerous Liverpool fans have yearned for Klopp's comeback, especially after he hinted the possibility of a second spell at the club wasn't out of the question. While this is almost certainly not going to materialise, Klopp did appear to promise he would lead the Reds' legends squad once more, should another club foundation event at Anfield be arranged for next year.

"It was good," Klopp said when asked how much he enjoyed the afternoon. "Nothing really changed. I enjoyed every second. My role today was not to have a lot of words.

"I was here for the Foundation and be part of a really special experience after a while, seeing all the Liverpool and Dortmund lads, you don't meet very often. Today it was really nice. The people suck it in. It was so nice to see the boys playing. Thiago alone was worth the ticket!"

When the interviewer said to him "See you next year, Klopp?" he quickly replied "Yeah," suggesting he will be back in the dugout if the event is organised again.

Klopp secured the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Club World Cup and two League Cups during his nine campaigns at Anfield. He established himself as one of the greatest managers in the club's illustrious history.

While there were numerous heart-breaking near-misses, including two Champions League final losses, a Europa League final setback and two runner-up finishes in the Premier League - including one where the Reds reached 97 points but still came second to Manchester City - Klopp remains amazed at his accomplishments.

Reflecting on his tenure, he said: "How dumb you would be to dream that big. I was positive about my future. Where I came from, to achieve that big, was a miracle.
