Man Utd snap up highly-rated Spurs winger TynanThompson in 8m deal

Thompson, 18, started to grow frustrated at a lack of first-team chances at Spurs and will now move to United after scored 13 goals last season at U18s and U21 level

Tynan Thompson has joined Manchester United

Tottenham's highly-rated winger Tynan Thompson has joined Manchester United in a deal worth up to 8million.

Spurs academy graduate Thompson scored seven goals in the UEFA Youth League last season and frequently starred at left wing for the under-21s.

Thompson, 18, started to grow frustrated at a lack of first-team chances at Tottenham, despite being named on the bench three times in the 2025-26 campaign and has completed a transfer to United, subject to registration.

Personal family circumstances have also been cited as a reason behind the departure, with a desire expressed by Thompson's family to relocate to the Manchester area, sources close to Spurs have told PA.

Thompson, who had to handle the unexpected death of his father last November, has joined United for an initial 4m, with a further 4m included in add-ons.

A sell-on clause in the region of 15 to 20% and a matching rights condition, which may allow Tottenham to bring Thompson back to the club in the future, has also been included in the deal.

In announcing the signing, a United statement said: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration. The England youth international has joined from Tottenham Hotspur.

"The 18-year-old scored 13 goals and contributed six assists last season across Under-18s to Under-21s level, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games. His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs first-team matchday squads.
