Man Utd's Benjamin Sesko belief says it all about transfer favourites after making offer

Manchester United have had a 73.8million bid for Benjamin Sesko accepted by RB Leipzig, with the striker now set to decide between a move to Old Trafford or Newcastle

Manchester United are reportedly confident that Benjamin Sesko is keen to make the switch to Old Trafford after they tabled a 73.8million offer for the RB Leipzig sensation.

Sesko finds himself at the heart of a transfer tug-of-war between the Red Devils and Newcastle, with both sides eager to land the striker. Newcastle saw their initial approach for Sesko knocked back, but have since returned with an enhanced proposal worth approximately 78m.

United's package is valued at 65.2m upfront plus 8.6m in potential extras, whilst the Magpies are prepared to stump up 69.5m initially plus 8.6m in bonuses.

Nevertheless, the Athletic reports that Ruben Amorim and his team's proposal mirrors their assessment of Sesko's worth and highlights their conviction that he favours joining them over Newcastle, reports the Mirror.

The Red Devils have moved to tackle their goalscoring struggles this summer, having managed to find the net just 44 times in the Premier League last campaign.

Indeed, only Everton and the three demoted sides registered fewer league strikes than Amorim's outfit. They have already secured Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who bagged 35 league goals combined last term.

Yet United skipper Bruno Fernandes has called for additional reinforcements following their 2-2 stalemate with Everton in pre-season. "It's improving, but it's not where we want it to be," Fernandes remarked after the match.

"It's a game of football, there's always passion there. Whatever happens, happens. There was nothing spicy there, it's normal, it is part of the game. It's been positive [the US tour] and it's good to create a bond with the players. We looked a bit lazy today and we need to change that.

"I don't want to have a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best they can in terms of all the financial situations they talk about. I don't know about it, I'm not involved in that.

"But obviously it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here.

"We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that."
