Man Utd plans to finally land Bryan Mbeumo suffer fresh blow as bid rejected

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo and the Bees are seemingly planning for life without the Cameroon international, but they've hit a problem

Manchester United appeared to be heading to a fruitful transfer window when they announced the signing of Matheus Cunha at the beginning of June.

The Brazilian was unveiled as United's first signing on June 12, marking the start of their transfer activity. However, 34 days after triggering Cunha's 62.5million release clause and Ruben Amorim securing his top target, United's dealings have been anything but good.

Brentford have rejected two offers for Bryan Mbeumo within the past month. An initial bid of 55m was turned down by the Bees, followed by a revised offer of 60m, which also fell short.

It's understood that Brentford are holding out for a figure close to 65m, and reports this week suggest there is still a significant gap between the two clubs' valuations. In contrast to United, Brentford are planning ahead

Brentford have already bolstered Keith Andrew's squad this month with the signing of Antoni Milambo from Feyenoord, and now they're reportedly eyeing a winger who could potentially replace Mbeumo on the right of their frontline.

Ipswich Town's Omari Hutchinson is said to be on Brentford's radar, and following their relegation from the Premier League, he's one of the players who could likely leave. The Daily Mail reported that a 35m bid had been tabled for the ex-Chelsea star, which would trigger his release clause.

However, contrasting reports suggest a deadline of 5pm on Tuesday, July 15 to activate Hutchinson's release clause was included in his contract.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, the bid was not lodged in time. The transfer guru reports that the release clause has expired, but the winger, who was a part of England U21s European Championship-winning side, is keen on the move.

Hutchinson, like Mbeumo, is a left-footed winger and seems an ideal candidate to step into the shoes of the Cameroonian international. It's now up to United to negotiate terms with Brentford to close the deal.

While United have been pursuing Mbeumo, there seems to have been a lack of alternative targets. The lack of talk about other attacking alternatives has been unusual, leaving them in a precarious position regarding Mbeumo.

There remains hope that the 25-year-old will join United, but time is ticking if he is to be part of the pre-season tour to the United States.
