Michael Higdon turned to Jimmy Calderwood over Dutch move

MICHAEL HIGDON revealed Jimmy Calderwood helped persuade him to make a shock move to NEC Nijmegen.

Michael Higdon has swapped Motherwell for NEC Nijmegen


The ex-Motherwell hitman joined ambitious Dutch club NEC this week.


SPL top scorer Higdon signed a two-year deal and sought advice from former Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Ross County boss Calderwood - who had a two-year spell as NEC manager in 1997.


Higdon said: "I spoke to Jimmy about NEC and he said it really is a great club.

"I had other options, but NEC seemed to want me the most. I want to play here. I want to score goals the Dutch League and I believe I can score a lot of them if I get the right supply.

"This is a new challenge for me, but it's one I am looking forward to.

"I have been told I need to score in the derby game against Vitesse Arnhem! That's the game I'm looking forward to because everyone has been talking about it."
