Neil Warnock given "w****r" chant send off by Stoke City fans and he loves it

Neil Warnock celebrated after being serenaded by his favourite "w****r" chant during his final game as Huddersfield boss - and even wants it sung when he dies

Neil Warnock cheered in delight after receiving his favourite "w****r" chant during his final game as Huddersfield manager.

"Warnock is a w*****" could be heard around the John Smith's Stadium on Wednesday evening after he agreed to step down from his role as manager. The 74-year-old saved the club from relegation from League One latest season and leaves with the favour of the fans.

Stoke fans were also keen to get involved as the sides drew 1-1 in their Championship fixture, supplying his favourite chant before cheering as he thanked them. In a video posted to social media, Warnock waved back in he 57th minute.

Warnock, who has enjoyed 19 separate managerial spells, is not yet ready to return despite approaching his 75th birthday.

Warnock told the Mail back in 2018: "'I don't want silence. I want them all to be chanting "Warnock's a w*****" over and over again. For a whole minute. That would be my ideal. They'll all smile because they'd all know that would mean a lot to me."

The Football League icon was then given a guard of honour by players and staff, with the club set to appoint a new manager imminently.

Warnock told BBC Radio Leeds: "It's been a great six months - and it was really nice to see the fans stay behind after the game and give me that applause, when I thought they might just clear off.

"It meant the world, that. I can't remember a manager being given a guard of honour before when he's getting booted out. I just said to the lads 'just make sure it's not a damp squib' - and they did that. They went out and gave their best.

"It's been hard at times but I really believe in these players. I wouldn't swap them for anyone. It's been very emotional talking to them. Some of the things they've said to me I'll treasure for the rest of my life."

Warnock then got a laugh by giving his thoughts on the incoming boss - and joking that he already hates them.

He said: "I haven't a clue who the new manager is. They haven't told me. Presumably it's somebody I don't like. As for me, it'll hit me more when I'm back home at the weekend but you never know what's around the corner."
